A city which always has been a witness to the grandness of the ancient Egyptian seven thousand years of civilization.It has been a tourist destination since the beginning of tourism

Luxor is an open museum where you can watch ancient history and recent history.
- Luxor city is included in south Upper Egypt region,

- It is far from:
South Cairo by 670 km.
North Aswan city by220 km.
South East Hurghada by 280 km.

- The Luxor city is divided into two sides:

The East and The West separated by the river Nile. The East mainland was called the city of the livings in the old ages where you can find the religious temples, royal palaces and the ordinary houses of the public, while the West mainland was also called the city of the dead where you can find the tombs and the funereal temples.

-Luxor City's National Day:On the 4th of November in each year Luxor celebrates it national day. This date is famous with the memorial of exploring the tomb of the king Tout Ankh Amoon, one of the kings in the 18th pharos family, which ruled Egypt (1347 BC– 1336 BC). The tomb was discovered by the British archeologist Hawerd Carter.in 1922

- The total area of Luxor is 416 km2 including the desert
- The population is 378030.

What to see at luxor


First the East Side :-

1- Luxor Museum:

Inaugurated in 1975 and this meausm is situated on the way to Karank,it contains documents from the theban area mostly recent discovery and the exhibition ends with examples from the Greeco-Roman,Coptic and Arab periods,found around the temple of Luxor.

2- Luxor temple:

Consider to be one of the most handsome temples in Egypt Built by the two pharaohs: Amenhotep III and Ramses II.from sandstone . The temple was dedicated to Amun-Ra, whose marriage to Mut was celebrated annually, Until 1831 two obelisks of red granite flanked the gateway now there is only one about 22 M in high and 227 tons in weighing .As the second was given to France by Mohamed Ali as a gift and now it is in the palace de la concorde.

3- Karank temple:

The temple lie some 3 k.m north of luxor.the largest temples in all over the World. it impresses the visitors by the beauty and elegance of its builiding and sculptures.
The complex contains a group of Temples such as (the enclosures of Amun.Mut and Monthu,The temple of Ptah,and the temple of god Oisiris. All these buildings were surrounded by a huge mud brick enclosure wall (20 m in height).

Second The West:-

All the necropolis of Thebes lay in the west side as

1- Valley of the Kings and the Queens:

It is a wide open area between the Karnna Mountains.These are the tombs ordered by the Kings and Queens of the New Kingdom to be carved in the rock-faces of the valley so as to safeguard them against grave-robbers. The tombs are composed of several rooms and corridors leading to the Burial Chamber. The most important of these tombs are those of Tut-Ankh-Amun, Ramses III, Seti I, Ramses VI, Amenhotep II, Hur-Moheb and Tuthmosis III. The chief tombs of the Valley of the Queens are those of Queen Nefertiti (Wife of Ramses II)

2- El Deir el Bahri temple:

It is the funereal temple of the great and most famous Queen in Egypt Queen Hatshibsute (1490 BC – 1469 BC). She was crowned to the throne after her brother and husband Tohotmos the second" death. The temple is unique in its architectural design, it was designed by Sinmout whom she loved and promoted his rank from the public to the elite rank in the royal palace.At 7th century B.C. the Copts used it as a monastery. The temple is composed of three impressive rising terraces, split by a road.

3- Ramesseum Temple:

The funerary temple of Ramesses the second, one of the 19th family's kings. Many events are recorded on the temple's walls such as Kadish war and many different religious scenes showing the relation between the king and the Gods.

4- Habu City Temple ( Madeient Habu ):

is one of the magnificent temples in Luxor It was established by king Ramsis the third, one of the 20th family's kings. On the temple's walls recorded scenes of the Mediterranean wars, religious scenes, sports games, hunting and trips.it was made up of two towers united in their upper parts with small windows,

5- The Two Statues of Memnoun:

These Two famous statues portraying king Amenhotop the third. Both of them carved from single block of very compact sandstone.Each one of them is 19.20 meters high they were built to be the entree of the temple which was collapsed leaving behind these two statues to be the only witnesses to the beauty of the temple and the greatness of his establisher.And became known that it made a musical sound at sunrise(the right one only).Experts explain this pgenomenon cause by the expansion of the cold stone as the morning sun hit it.It was restord in about 193A.D by the roman emperor septimius severus they restord the top portion of the statue then the sound was stopped forever..
